Helen Eller started making short films with her iPhone in 2021 as a self-taught filmmaker and launched a YouTube channel in 2022 to document her creative journey.
She was born in Estonia, where she spent her childhood and adolescence. At 19, she moved to Spain to study Spanish Philology and earned a PhD degree in Spanish linguistics (UCM, cum laude) in 2022. She is currently based in Spain and writes and directs independent short films in Spanish, although her first short films (e.g. “Influencer”, “Twins”) were made in Estonia.
Some of her short films, such as “Drawing Book”, “A Vague Memory”, “Level 9”, “La serotonina” were selected for the Love and Hope International Film Festival in 2024, 2025 and 2026 and were also nominated for Best Spanish Short Film or Best Sci-Fi Short Film.
